There are great sites to be seen right away with tall saguaros and mountains in every direction. Transforming into a twisting and turning roadway, it frequently offers curves that require drivers to slow down to 15 miles per hour. The day started off to be quite cloudy, but the skies will slowly clear as the day proceeds. The operation also offers 4×4 off road tours, train rides, tour of the actual deserted goldmine and a zipline. This “touristy” place is at the location of an old gold mine founded in the 1890’s. As the road travels in a northeast direction, you’ll pass by the Goldfield Mine and Ghost Town. Quite quickly the surroundings transform from civilization to baron desert and mountainous terrain in the Tonto National Forest. However, I decided that this drive is certainly worth sharing, even though it is a commonly traveled drive by natives and visitors alike.Īfter a short 30 minute drive from Chandler, the real drive begins after traveling through Apache Junction on AZ88 near Lost Dutchman Park. Generally, I make an effort to find drives that are unique tracks.
